China Merchants Industry Haimen Base is composed of China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as CMHI) and China Merchants Cruise Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as CMCS), which are wholly-owned subsidiaries of China Merchants Industry Holdings Co., Ltd. CMHI was founded in 2013 in Haimen of Jiangsu Province, and CMCS was founded in 2018. The registered capital of the two companies is $600 million in total. At present, Haimen Base develops in a coordinated manner in the principle of "two factories in one site, resource sharing and management integration".

Performance Over the Years

Since settlement in Haimen in 2013, Haimen Base has developed from a single high-end marine engineering equipment manufacturing to a high-end marine engineering plus luxury cruise ship, named as "two-wheel drive" . At present, Haimen Base focuses on high-end marine engineering and cruise ship manufacturing, with main products including oil drilling platform, mobile multi-functional drilling platform, drilling module, life module, offshore crane ship, large pipe-laying ship, LNG ship, FPSO, cruise ship and other special marine engineering equipment and ships. Since its establishment, Haimen Base has undertaken more than 50 high-end marine engineering, special ships and cruise ship projects, with about 2,500 employees and nearly 6,000 outsourcing people.

In the past two years, Haimen Base has successively delivered China's first polar expedition cruise ship, China's first petrol-electric hybrid luxury passenger catamaran, main hull of self-built FPSO (offshore floating production storage and offloading) with the world's largest tonnage and maximum oil capacity, middle-water and deep-water semi-submersible drilling platform with independent brands and independent intellectual property rights, various types of industry-leading self-elevating and self-propelled operation platform, LNG transport ships and other cruise ships and high-end marine engineering products. The new generation of high-end Yangtze River cruise ships, small and medium-sized 50,000-ton-class cruise ships and other products have also achieved market breakthroughs and are being designed or built smoothly. Haimen Base has become one of the fastest growing and most promising high-end marine engineering equipment and shipbuilding enterprises in China.


According to the cruise ship manufacturing principle of "from small to large, from easy to difficult", Haimen Base gradually accumulates experience through the construction of small cruise ships, and actively steps forward to the construction of medium-sized and large luxury cruise ships. On December 22, 2019, the construction of No. 2 Shipyard Project of the Cruise Ship Manufacturing Base was started. At present, the Project is progressing smoothly. On March 13, 2020, the luxury cruise laser workshop and supporting projects with a total investment of 5 billion Yuan were officially started. After completion, the project will provide a new solution for the shipbuilding industry to realize the workshop-level intelligent production, and also provide strong hardware resource guarantee for Haimen Base to achieve the annual capacity target of 1.5 luxury cruise ships of 100,000 gross tonnage and two polar adventure cruise ships.

In the future, CMIH Haimen Base will be driven by "TWO WHEELS", which is high-end marine engineering and cruise ship building, to build the interconnected development for vast stretches of regions with cruise ship manufacturing as the core, build a cruise ship industry ecosystem with complementary advantages and collaboration of multiple parties through the joint development of the port, the industry and the city, promote regional industrial upgrading, help local governments to cultivate a cruise ship industry cluster worth up to 100 billion Yuan, and strive to become a leading manufacturer of marine equipment and cruise ships in China.
